Post Grad!!!

Hey everyone! I know it has been a very long time since my last post. I have been a very busy girl!

As May arrived I prepared for graduation day which came and went so quickly I didn't know what to do with myself. My family and friends have been so supportive this summer. I still have not managed to find a photography job since receiving my diploma, however good things are happening for me.

I spent this summer lifeguarding as I have done for the past 3. Lifeguarding has been a great job for me and I love ever minute of it. I current work for the City of Denton. I have also found a job as a bridal consultant at Group USA in Grapevine Mills Mall which I will start sometime next week. Both have provided opportunities of networking and letting people know what I do. Though I do not have anything lined up right now, I look forward to talking with brides and working with the company to get my name out there.

As I have been very busy between work and getting ready to move, I have had a hard time picking up my camera this summer, however I plan to get back to it very soon.

Well folks in one month I will be graduating. The Sr. show will be hung in 2 weeks on April 30 and I'm very excited to be getting in our cards/invitations this week! Frames have been ordered and the blurb book designs have been turned in. I have added some new portraits to the website and redesigned it as well. Everything is coming along smoothly.

After graduation I will be working 2 jobs during the summer and then planning on moving to Lubbock to start off my photography career.

On another note, Warrior Dash is tomorrow and I will be running at 1pm with my friend Chris. I am planning to take some disposable cameras along with me so I can get lots of pictures from the event.

New Photos...

will be up on the website very very soon! As soon as I get some time in the lab to color correct and print off photographs I will start posting new images. I am still torn between which photos to choose for the senior show. However, I think I've found a framing solution that may allow me to use several more than I was planning to use. I am very excited for what's to come. My professors are very much enjoying my photos of Seymour. One of my studio professors claims I am lying to him because my photos from Hashknife ranch are very different from the in town photographs. He says that they make Seymour look like it's in the country! I explained to him that Seymour is indeed in the country but he doesn't believe me. All of my classmates and professors have had very differen opions and different responses to the photos I've shown but overall they are serving the purpose I've intended and going in a very good direction. I can't wait to show them off in May!

Just a quick update :)

Well it has been a couple of weeks since my trip to Seymour, but everything is coming along smoothly. I got great feedback from my classmates as far as what is working with my images and what isn't. The Seniors met yesterday to discuss more about the show and everything is coming along great. We figured out which postcards to order, named the show "Refraction", and got some details ironed out. As the show approaches I get more excited everyday for my friends and family to see what kind of work their money, prayers, thoughts and support have been going into. Though the weeks seem to get busier with projects, deadlines, Phi Lamb activities, and work, God is working to get me through this process one day at a time. It has been remarkable to see and feel the changes the semester has brought for me and I can't wait to find out what else is in store. Hope everyone else is having a great week!

Hashknife Ranch

Yesterday after reshooting some of my photos at Ernie's River Mill, I was invited by Lauren to shoot at Hashknife Ranch today. I went out for about 30 mins before my head started to bother me and had to leave to get back home and take my medicine. I think even though my time was limited I was able to get some really great pictures. I am excited to print and get some feedback on Wednesday in crit. Lauren also informed me that there is an art group in Seymour that will be trying to get a photography exhibition put together in the fall so I definitely look forward to putting my work in this show when the time comes!

Seymour

Today has been a good day of shooting. I reshot some previous pics and a few new ones. I'm really excited to shoot again tomorrow out at a ranch and a couple of other places. I'm sooo glad I have my Nikon with me this time and not my point and shoot! The pictures look much better than before. I'm really excited about the cornstock photo especially as it has grown a lot and looks fantastic! I can't wait to see them bigger. Even though the photos are purely documentary, I look forward to sharing this place because its such a beautiful day and such a "beautiful" town (in my eyes) and community in so many ways. Coming back here really inspires me to become emerged in my work and focused on the tranquility of it all.

Senior Year

Wow! I can't believe it is my last semester at school! I have been very busy. I am taking 3 studios, Photo Studio II, Lighting Studio, and Monotype. I have a new job at Academy in Plano and have also decided to join Sigma Phi Lambda. I am working out regularly in preparation for a marathon. It seems like I never stop moving and sleep is is hard to come by, but I am soooo excited for all the things that are in store this semester. It has been a long hard road and I'm pushing through the last steps of college very smoothly. I can't wait for the senior show and everyone to come down and see what I've worked so hard for. It will be such a great accomplishment when it is over. Although this blog is meant mostly for my photography I do ask that anyone who reads this post would keep Miss Briley Hostas in your thoughts and prayers. She has leukeima and currently being treated. She can be followed at teambriley.blogspot.com. I look forward to sharing more with you soon!
